The mediterranean lagoon of Thau is subject to dystrophic crisis leading to mortalities of the shells grown there. This study shows that the risk for such a crisis is permanent during the Summer. Disappearing of oxygen, mainly tabes place in the breeding areas and near the bottom because of the concentration of shells and the abundance of biodeposit. A correlation is shown between the level of the oxygen in the water and the speed of the wind which is the main factor of balance. |

Thau is a mediterranean lagoon with a large productive stock of molluscs (oysters, mussels) cultivated on suspended tines and colonised by epibionta (ascidia and others invertebrates, algae, etc ... ). This study was developed as part of the PNOC-OXYTHAU.programme. Its aim was to analyze the effects of oyster farrning on water-mass surrounding structures loaded with suspended molluscs and proximal watermass separating these structures. This study concems particulate suspended matter and deposits of particulate organic matter on the bottom after sedimnentation. Biochemical measurements were carried out for nitrogen, carbon, proteins, lipids and carbohydrates. ln order to estimate sedimentaton, bottom sediment traps were used |

En février 1971, un ostréiculteur apportait pour détermination au Centre de l'Institut Scientifique et Technique des Pêches Maritimes a Sète une algue de grande taille qu'il observait pour la première fois dans l'étang de Thau. Il s'agissait de l'espéce Undaria pinnatifida, originellement endémique des côtes japonaises, introduite accidentellement en France sans doute avec du naissain d'huitres en provenance d'Extrème-Orient. Loin de s'effacer face a la concurrence des algues vertes pourtant dans l'étang de Thau fort prolifiques, telles que Codium, Enteromorpha, Ulothrix, Chaetomorpha, Undaria a étendu progressivement son aire de répartition.
